Backlighting, Bokeh and Bursts

Sunday 28 July
Darley Abbey - 7pm - 2 Hours
Emma Duder
We will be looking at three techniques to explore the behaviour of light during the golden hour. Backlighting is great for nature shots when the sun is low in the sky. Bokeh is Japanese for blur but is a term used for soft out of focus balls of light which can look very pleasing. Burst in this case is star burst which can be achieved when you have strong areas of light and a correct choice of aperture. Use all three to create some amazing compositions.

Sunday 25 August
Newtown Linford - 10am - 2 Hours

Working with natural light is an essential skill for any photographer. Natural Light is free, and almost always readily available - in the daytime at least.

This session will focus on the creative aspect of portrait photography, but there will be technical aspects like balancing settings, colour temperature for different light, and how to orient subjects in different light for the best results.

In this session we will be acting as models for each other, and taking it in turns to photograph and be photographed, but this is less scary than it sounds, I promise! Being on the other side of the camera will give you a feel for what your subjects are feeling themselves, and help you dial in your direction and communication for when it 2019s your turn behind the camera.

We 2019ll be looking at where to start with posing and discuss prompting to help you guide your subject to where you want them. The bulk of this class will be capturing portraits. We 2019ll go through images at each point, and discuss what 2019s working for you, and where you need direction.

We'll be using each other in the session as models, but don't worry, you don't need to dress up! Come comfy, and be ready to have fun on the other side of the camera for a few minutes.
